Description Technical Details

The Labtronic Plate weirs apparatus is a versatile and comprehensive tool for experimenting with the flow through weirs of different shapes. With four different weir shapes included in the apparatus, researchers can easily compare and contrast the behavior of water flow under various conditions.

To ensure accuracy and consistency in experiments, a baffle has been installed at the inlet of the water channel. This ensures that the flow conditions remain smooth and predictable, allowing researchers to focus on the impact of the different weir shapes.

For precise measurements, a vernier measuring unit has been fixed to the hydraulic bench, just before the weir. This allows researchers to measure the level inside the channel with a high degree of accuracy, enabling them to draw meaningful conclusions from their experiments.

Learning Objectives:

Plate weirs apparatus demonstrates the characteristics of flow over weirs with different shapes, the depth of water above the base of a weir is related to the flow rate through it and weirs are used as a flow measuring device, so we can apply in energy equation.

  1. Demonstration of flow-over weirs with different shapes.
  2. Calculating discharge coefficient.
  3. Demonstration of plate weirs as a measuring device and comparison of measuring weirs Rehbock and Thomson.
  4. Recording measuring discharge and comparing with theoretical.
