Description Technical Details

The Labtronic Heat Exchanger Supply Unit (LT-HT107) is an essential component of the Labtronic heat transfer series, designed to facilitate comprehensive experimentation with various types of heat exchangers. The unit features two separate water circuits—hot and cold—that are crucial for conducting a wide range of heat transfer tests. The hot water circuit is powered by an integrated heating tank and pump, while the cold water circuit can be supplied via an external water chiller unit (Trainer Unit LT-HT113).

This supply unit is compatible with multiple heat exchanger trainer units, including:

  • Tubular Heat Exchanger (LT-HT108)
  • Plate Heat Exchanger (LT-HT109)
  • Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger (LT-HT110)
  • Stirred Tank with Double Jacket and Coil (LT-HT111)
  • Finned Tube Heat Exchanger (LT-HT112)

The LT-HT107 is equipped with all the necessary utilities, sensors, and instruments to carry out detailed heat exchanger experiments. These include temperature sensors, flow sensors, and a pressure control valve for precise management of the cold water circuit. The integrated software aids in recording and processing all measured data, ensuring accurate results and easy analysis.

Learning Objectives:

  • Energy Balance and Efficiency Calculation: Analyze the energy balance within the system and calculate the efficiency of different heat exchangers.
  • Heat Transfer Analysis: Study the transfer of heat between fluids separated by a wall.
  • Temperature Curve Plotting: Use software to plot temperature curves and visualize heat exchanger behaviour.
  • Log Mean Temperature Difference (LMTD): Calculate LMTD to evaluate heat exchanger performance.
  • Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient (U): Determine the overall heat transfer coefficient and understand the factors influencing it.
  • Flow Rate and Temperature Difference Impact: Explore how variations in flow rate and temperature difference affect the heat transfer coefficient.
  • Comparison of Heat Exchanger Types: Compare the operating modes and performance characteristics of different types of heat exchangers.
