Device Image
Description Technical Details

The Labtronic Tubular Heat Exchanger unit (LT-HT108) is a widely used and versatile tool for studying heat transfer principles. Among the various types of heat exchangers, the tubular heat exchanger is known for its simplicity and effectiveness, making it ideal for educational and experimental purposes.

In conjunction with the Heat Exchanger Supply Unit (LT-HT107), this unit enables the study of heat transfer between two fluids. Hot water flows through the inner tube while cold water flows through the outer tube. The flow rate of both fluids can be precisely controlled using the flow control valves on the supply unit. The design allows for easy adjustment between parallel flow and counterflow operations, providing flexibility for different experimental setups.

The unit is equipped with temperature sensors and flow sensors to measure the inlet and outlet temperatures as well as the flow rates. Additionally, two extra temperature sensors are placed along the tubular heat exchanger to monitor the temperature at the midpoint of the heat transfer process, offering detailed insights into the thermal performance of the system.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding the Working Principle:
    • Learn the fundamental working principles of a tubular heat exchanger.
  • Analysis of Advantages and Limitations:
    • Evaluate the benefits and constraints of using tubular heat exchangers in various applications.
  • Comparison with Other Heat Exchanger Types:
    • Compare the performance and efficiency of tubular heat exchangers with other types of heat exchangers.
  • Visualization of Heat Transfer Behaviour:
    • Observe and analyze the behaviour of heat transfer within a tubular heat exchanger during operation.
  • Drawing Temperature Curves:
